Walking into a new organization or faith group can often seem daunting. After all, you are new and it may seem like everyone else is already connected and involved. Where do you start? How do you “break in?”
Following is a list of low-commitment suggestions for how to become more familiar with Milwaukee Friends Meeting.
- Attend a Meeting for Worship and stay after for the social hour
- Share your “Joys or Sorrows” during that segment of Meeting for Worship
- Attend a potluck meal (usually the fifth Sunday in months with five Sundays)
- Show up and help out on Land Clean Up Day – usually held from 9:00 am – Noon on the first Saturday of each month from March – November
- Attend an Introduction to Quakerism workshop – usually held in February or March
- Subscribe to Meeting Announcements and receive weekly updates on MFM activities
- Subscribe to Quaker Talk – an email forum for sharing and discussion
- Subscribe to receive new editions of the quarterly Shareletter publication – where MFM members share thoughts, poems, art and essays. Or – submit your own work to share with others.
- “Like us” on Facebook
- Attend our International Gift Shop – held on the first weekend in December. Or, bake something for the event.
- Find out more about a MFM Committee that may interest you.
- Check out the MFM Library with over 1,000 books to browse or borrow.
- If you want to get involved but are just unsure how or where to “plug in,” please fill out the Volunteer Form and someone will get back to you.
